Amsterdam rises on Mercer´s Quality of Living ranking 2014

Reaffirms reputation with infrastructure

Amsterdam
USPA NEWS - Amsterdam has reaffirmed its reputation as a city that offers a particularly high quality of life for its inhabitants.
In a recent survey on the quality of living in cities across the world, Amsterdam climbed one place to finish just outside the top 10.

A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE
In 2014, Amsterdam ranks 11th on consultancy firm Mercer´s annual Quality of Living index, a position higher than the city´s 2013 ranking.
Speaking to a Dutch radio station (in Dutch), Mercer´s Antoni van Huissteden explained that improvements in the city´s infrastructure and cultural facilities have made Amsterdam an even better place to live than previously.
Vienna once again tops the list, followed by Zurich and Auckland.
What makes Amsterdam so attractive is the 17th century historical atmosphere combined with the mentality of a modern metropolis creating a friendly and relaxed environment. The small scale of the buildings and the intimacy of the streets, canals and squares create an atmosphere that visitors find unique.

The city has the highest museum density in the world and is home to cultural highlights, such as the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House, Hermitage Amsterdam and the Rijksmuseum with Rembrandt´s world-famous Nightwatch. Other well known places of interest in Amsterdam are the Palace on the Dam, the Artis Zoo, Jewish Historical Museum and the Rembrandt House.
